The more you travel, the more you appreciate Prestwicks unique charms. Neither World War was kind to the property, and Mackenzie Rosss reconstruction after WWII provides the core of todays layout. Though the middle of the property is pretty tame topographically, thats precisely where Tillinghast created some of the best greens. Heathland golf around London is famous for all sorts of reasons but the strength of its par-5s isnt one of them. If its classic old layouts that appeal most to you then check out a pair of Stanley Thompson-designed courses from the late 1920s at St Georgesand Westmountor take a look at the old Harry Colt tracks at Hamilton(1916) and Toronto(1911). Two of the best examples occur late in the round. Be careful of its short par-4s: the 4th, 9th and 14th all tempt with driver off the tee and punish rash tactics.
