I wish we'd had more time to linger mainlyThe caves were pretty, but not worth the high cost, especially since 12 and up is considered adult. The tour guides were fun and knowledgeable, the cave was beautiful, and the grand finale of the tour in the Theater room is something my kids will be talking about for a long time! Tour keeps you moving and is just long enough kids of all ages don't complain. Meramec Caverns is the most-visited cave in Missouri with so… Good price, beautiful scenery, and a helpful staff to get you going. Our guide was super knowledgeable and fun to listen to.
The office and visitor center are open 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday to allow for extra disinfection of the facilities. I was amazed to learn of the history, ie using dolomite to make gunpowder during the Civil War & Jesse James using these stunningly beautiful caves as a hideout. When in St Louis a not to be missed attraction is, the Meramec Caverns in the nearby Stanton, a unique complex of mineral formations which took probably millions of years to grow. They have everything from camping, to zip lining and a cute souvenir shop. Missouri is known as the Cave state, hosting home to more than 6,000 surveyed caves. The cave is well appointed for safety.
